Select by Circle (Buffering)

A map tool that will return all features within a specified distance of a point on the map. Use this feature when you are interested in a contiguous group of features, but need more control in which features are selected. With this selection tool, you specify a path and all features that intersect that path are selected. This feature can be used to select all parcels of a street segment.

Steps for selecting features by line:

  • Click the Select By Circle button in the Tools pane.
  • Notice at the bottom of the Toolbox now displays a Buffer Distance textbox. Type the radius of the circle (distance in feet) you wish to buffer.
  • Click a single point on the map. This point will represent the center of the circle. The map will be refreshed and all features of the active layer that fall within the specified distance of the point you specified will be selected.

Note:

The functionality of this feature depends on the active layer. The default active layer is 'Parcels'; selecting features on the map by using Select By Circle will select 'Parcel' features.
